System Status Page

Business Problem.

John's company needed to keep it's users updated about incidents in real time.

The board felt that in today's fast-paced digital landscape, maintaining consistent and reliable service is of utmost importance.

John's board understands that unexpected downtime or disruptions can have a significant impact on not only business operations and productivity, but also customers expectations.

That's why we chose to develop a status page to ensure their users have access to real-time information about the health of our systems.

The moment we become aware of any service disruptions or maintenance activities, we will promptly update our status page to keep you informed.

You can rely on us to provide timely and accurate information about the nature of the issue, the affected services, and the estimated resolution time.

However, while our ops team is working on the service interruption, they often don't have time to update the status page, resulting in users being frustrated at the lack of timely updates.

An incident controller who is across the overall situation can update easily as the resolution progresses.

Solution

The solution was to use Markdown2s publish a web page by email.

This approach can be particularly useful for individuals or small businesses or those who may not have the technical expertise or resources to manage a traditional website.

After creating the text and chart for the page in the sandbox, the board was happy with the design.

Status of our company

Rest assured that our operations team is working hard to resolve this issue.

Customer System Status 80 current Broker System Status 100 current Backend System Status 100 current

Estimated resolution at 21:00UTC

The email publishing route needed to be secure, so a username/password must be included, to ensure it really is from an authorised person.

The upside is that the status is published instantaneously.

The page can be hosted at markdown2.com or linked to permanently from an iframe in your existing website.

The text used to design the webpage is standard Markdown with a little extra to define the chart. This is what gets sent in the email to publish the page.

Summary

The email method of publishing simple yet easily modifiable templates can result in ensuring timely updates are available on your website.
